ACEDEMIC SUBJECT CERTIFICATION IN THE VISUAL ARTS
The Academic Subject Certificate (ASC) in Visual Arts is intended to recognize and encourage innovation, collaboration, and creativity. This certificate enhances the Liberal Arts A.A. degree. If a student plans to pursue a Baccalaureate degree in the Fine Arts (BFA), consult a counselor or academic advisor.

Requirements

The ASC has a minimum of 18 credits.

The last six credits must be taken at Maui Community College.

Students must receive a "C" or better for all courses included in the certificate.

To be eligible, courses must be taken for a letter grade.
Required Courses (Visual Arts core: 9 credits)
ART 101 Introduction to the Visual Arts (3)
ART 113 Introduction to Drawing (3)
ART 115 Introduction to Design (3)
Electives
Choose at least two courses (six credits) from the following courses
ART 103 Introduction to Fiber Arts
ART 104 Elementary Studio: Printmaking
ART 105 Elementary Studio: Ceramics
ART 107 Elementary Studio: Photography
ART 123 Introduction to Painting
ART 190v/290v Topics in Art (1-3)
Choose at least one course (three credits) from the following courses
ART 170 History of Western Art
ART 223 Intermediate Painting
ART 243 Intermediate Ceramics: Hand Building
ART 244 Intermediate Ceramics: Wheel Throwing
Note: For ART 190v and 290v courses, up to three credits of different topics may be used as electives in the A.A. degree. Up to three additional credits may be used to satisfy a Humanities requirement for a total of no more than six Topics credits.
