Degrees in Business Careers

The Business Careers program offers a range of certificates and AAS degrees.

Certificates of Competence: Certificates designed for students and community members who wish to acquire or upgrade their skills and knowledge.

Certificate of Achievement:  One-year Certificate of Achievement that provides essential skills and knowledge in business, communication, writing, and mathematics.

Associate in Applied Science:  Two-year Associate in Applied Science that serves as preparation in the areas of business management, marketing, and sales.

Certificate of Competence

The Business Program offers three (3) Certificates of Competence (CO) all of which are designed for students and community members who wish to acquire or upgrade their skills and knowledge.

MKT 285 (3cr): Internet / Social Media Marketing

BUSN 150 (3cr): Introduction to Business Computing

BUSN 261 (3cr): Web Page Construction Fundamentals and Marketing

BUS 125 (3cr): Starting a Business

MGT 124 (3cr): Human Resources Management

ACC 124 (3cr): Principles of Accounting 1,  or ACC 201 (3cr): Introduction to Financial Accounting

BLAW 200 (3cr): Legal Environment of Business

MGT 120 (3cr):  Principles of Management

Certificate of Achievement

The Certificate of Achievement (CA) in Business Management is a certificate designed to provide students with essential skills and knowledge in business.  This certificate also provides a foundation for those wishing to continue on to the Associate of Applied Science degrees.

Requirements for Certificate of Achievement (CA): 30 credits

Business 120(3) Business Technology 150 or ICS 101(3), Management 120(3),122(3), Marketing 120(3), Business Communication Oral 130(3) English 100(3)*, MATH 103 or higher(3)**, ECON 130(3), BLAW 200(3)

* Note: ENG 22 may be substituted for the Certificate of Achievement for those not going on to the AAS degree.

**Note: MATH 82 may be substituted for the Certificate of Achievement for those not going on to the AAS degree.

Associate in Applied Science

Two-year Associate in Applied Science that serves as preparation in the areas of business management, marketing, and sales.

• Transferable courses for four-year business programs at UH Maui College, UH Mānoa, UH West Oahu, and other institutions.

AAS Degree Requirements

  • At least 60 credits with a 2.0 or higher
  • No more than 30 credits taken for CR/NC grades
  • Grade C or better is required in the following:
    • ENG 55 or higher
    • COM 145 or BUS/COM 130
    • Accounting

Those interested in a baccalaureate (4-year) program:

  • Take the appropriate mathematics sequence early in order to complete the required course(s).
  • Schedule an appointment to see a counselor about specific requirements for entrance to baccalaureate programs.

Note:  Not all Business Administration courses will transfer and fill baccalaureate requirements. Baccalaureate programs additionally have specific GPA entrance requirements that may be higher than 2.0. Students should elect letter grades (A, B, C, etc).

Contact a Business Programs Counselor to develop an academic plan that will identify the courses you will take each semester until you have earned your degree.
