The accreditation term runs from October 2015 through July 2022.

Program Overview

The Associate of Science (A.S.) Early Childhood Education degree prepares students to work with young children from birth to 5 and their families. The curriculum is designed to be a full-time,  2-year (minimum 62 credits) program and is organized around a core of courses that provide skills and knowledge needed by early childhood educators. The Associate of Science (A.S.) Early Childhood Education program at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Due to our accreditation, the following class can not be transferred in: ECED 131, ECED 193/194, ECED 245, ECED 263, ECED 264, ECED 295. The current accreditation term runs from July 2023 through December 2024.
 
This degree articulates to the University of Hawaiʻi West Oʻahu Bachelor in Education, Early Childhood Education concentration and the University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa Early Childhood Ed/Special Education Bachelor's degree programs.
Students with a current CDA (Child Development Associate) credential (without ECED 193/4 credit) may apply for 4 credits of ECED 193/194 Early Childhood Field Experience 1A/1B after taking 12 credits of UHMC courses. See the Prior Learning Assessment section of the UHMC Catalog for more information and make an appointment with the program coordinator initiate the process.

Additional costs for books, materials, and supplies: $25-$150 per course. Scholarships are available to offset cost of textbooks.
