Installing Netscape 7.1 on PCs

modified 04/26/2004 1. Save a copy of your Netscape settings, bookmarks, and address book. Close Netscape Launch Windows Explorer Windows 98: (Start | Programs | Windows Explorer) Windows 2000 and XP:: (Start | Programs | Accessories | Windows Explorer) In the left pane navigate to: C:\Program Files\Netscape\ Click on the Netscape yellow folder In the right pane click once on the Users folder Click on Edit in the menu and select Copy Right-click on your desktop. When the menu comes up, select Paste

1. Determine location of Netscape settings folder. First open your email program and click on the Edit menu and select Preferences |

2. Next click on the category Mail Servers. Find the Local mail directory: section. Note the folder name just after \Users\. (In the example to the right, I would write down the name melody_uh.) You will need this information in step 14. Click the Cancel button and close your email program. |

3. Go to the following link, find the Download Netscape Browser section and click on the red Download button.

Print out these instructions as the scrolling option to view these instructions may be disabled while in the Preferences section. |

4. Save the NSSetup.exe file to your desktop. Close all Netscape windows. Double-click on the NSSetup.exe icon to launch the set up.

| 5. Click on the Next button. |
|
| 6. Click on the Accept button. |
|
| 7. Accept the default by clicking on the Next button. |
|
| 8. Click on the Yes Button. |
|
| 9. Accept the default by clicking on the Next button. |
|
|
10. Uncheck the checkbox for "Use Quick Launch for ...." Click on the Next button. |
|
|
11. Uncheck the checkbox for "Make Netscape.com my home page". Check the checkbox for "Save installer files locally". Now click on the Next button. |

| 12. Click on the Install button. |
|
| 13. Netscape 7.1 is now installing. |
|
|
14. NOTE: If you only have one profile in Netscape you won't see this step and the next. Go to step 16. If you see the Select User Profile box, select the profile that was noted in step 2. Click on the Start Netscape 7.1 button. |

| 15. Click the OK button. |
|
|
16. (Very Important) Click the Cancel button. Do NOT click the Next button. |

| 17. Click the Yes button. |
|
| 18. Click the Yes button. |
|
|
19. Congratulations. You have successfully installed Netscape 7.1. You will now have to configure Netscape for UH settings.
