Automating Remote Logins to UHUNIX MCC faculty and staff who have accounts on other Internet hosts can set up their additional accounts for automatic remote logins from their VMS accounts, eliminating the need to enter their remote username and password when they're already logged-in to MCCADA. This document only gives instructions on how to set up seamless access to UHUNIX, but similar techniques are available for setting up accounts on other hosts. (Contact the Computing Center for special assistance.) The first step is to create a file named .rhosts in your home directory on UHUNIX. The file must contain a line similar to: MCCADA.MAUICC.HAWAII.EDU SMITH Replace `SMITH' in the example with your actual VMS username on the VAX. Back on MCCADA, the next step is to add a line similar to the following in your SMILE_ENVIRONMENT.COM file: $ SETUNIXLOGIN JOHN Replace `JOHN' in the second example with your actual userid on UHUNIX. After completing these two simple steps, you will need to log out and log back into MCCADA in order to take advantage of your VMS account's new configuration. Once your account is properly configured, the UNIX option in the User Menu System (or the command RL2 UHUNIX) will automatically log you into your account on UHUNIX. Hidden menu options UNIX2 and UNIX3 can also be used to log into the secondary and tertiary hosts in the UHUNIX cluster.
