The following internship opportunities are available to UHMC
students who, when selected, will enroll in 1-3
credits of Cooperative Education. |
Cooperative Education is an academic program which awards credits
for field experiences related to a student's major or career interest. |

Bug Man Termite & Pest |
Administrative Assistant |
Act as office manager in a pest control company. Duties include answering phones, taking messages, setting schedules, filing, typing, some bookkeeping, accounting, and HR tasks. |
Must be comfortable with Office 2003, Quickbooks 2010 and willing to learn new industry specific software.

Maui Historical Society |
Museum Intern and Archival Intern |
Maui Historical Society runs the Bailey House Museum. Archival Resource Center, and the Museum Shop and Gardens. The Museum Intern will assist satff in one of these areas. Opportunites include working as a Museum Docent, Archives Assistant, Office Assistant, Shop Clerk or Gardener. |
Computer and Customer Service experience helpful. Garden and landscape experience helful for Gardener. Bailey House's Archival Intern will assist staff in cataloging collections and data entry. History, Hawaiian Studies, American Studies, Archaeology, Library Science, and Art History m ajors are preferred.

Intern will provide assistance to the Executive Office Administrator, handle billing, follow-up calls, phone messages, and operate general office machines as needed.

Maui Nui Botanical Garden |

Maui Nui Botanical Gardens is a non-profit organization in partnership with the County of Maui and the Dept. of Water Supply. MNGB focuses on the conservation and cultivation of native Hawaiian and Polynesian-introduced plant species. |
Intern will receive training in garden landscaping & safety, soil science, irrigation installation & repair, pruning & trimming, weeding, xeriscaping, proper herbicide techniques, nursery work & plant propagation, plant and insect identification and control, working with volunteers and visitors. Attention to detail and instruction is a must. Adherence to guidelines, policies and procedures is a requirement.

Layout/Grapic Design Intern |

Intern's main tasks are laying out the paper and preparing ads in AdobeInDesign, Photoshop, and /or illustrator. Other tasks include business card design, passport photography and various office duties. Intern will be expected to make content decisions that enhance readability of the newspaper and will work one-on-one with clients to create accurate and effective advertisements. Must be clear communicator in graphic arts and have strong teamwork skills. Portfolio must demonstarte a strong sense of visual harmony and multi-page publication experience. Recent graduates with Communications background and Journalism experience preferred. |

PATCH Maui Student Helper |
PATCH is Hawaii's only statewide agency specializing in child care resource and referral services. Their mission is to improve and support both the quality and availability of child care in Hawaii. |
Working conditions include an office setting, but include attending community events. Intern must have professional demeanor and dress, strong interpersonal skills, enjoy working with families and children, be computer literate and able to operate office equipment. Duties include office support and in-taking client information over phone or via email.

Film & Entertainment Intern |
This site is at the Maui County Office fo the Mayor. Intern will be in an office setting where business attire is required. |
Intern will assist with the organization and filing of photos from all of Maui County to create a digital Location Directory. Intern will assist in marketing, gathering and organizing a Talent Directory for the Maui Film Office. Candidate must be able to work independently and be self-motivated, have strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and how to email.

This site is at the Maui County Office of the Mayor. Intern will be in an office setting where business attire is required. |
Intern will upload photos from events onto the Office of Economic Development website, update the OED calendar, update events and summarize previous weekly activities sponsored by the County. Experience with working with photos, creating lists, familiarity with technology required. Intern must be able to work independently and be self-motivated.
