Program Overview

CO, CA, AS - 2 Year Program

Get hands-on with high tech. Students enrolled in the Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) program receive an education in basic electronics, computer technology, computer programming, optical systems, and networking that includes knowledge of DC/AC/Semiconductor circuits, digital electronics, computers, networks, telescopes and lasers. 

The ECET program emphasizes the use of Computer-Aided Design software such as SolidWorks, and graphical programming environment for modeling, simulating and analyzing multidomain dynamical systems such as Simulink.

Students graduating with the Associate in Science (AS) degree in ECET may enter the workforce as entry-level electronic/electro-optic technicians, renewable energy technicians, and telecom/network technicians.

Length of Program
The time to complete the AS degree in ECET varies. To obtain the associate degree in two years, students need to take an average of 15 credits/semester, and place into ENG 100 and MATH 103.


Project Kaihuwaʻa Scholarship Programs (KSPI and KSPII)
ECET majors may apply to the KSP that target low-income academically talented students with demonstrated financial need pursuing STEM degrees at UHMC. Students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (for KSPI) or 2.5 (for KSPII) are eligible for the scholarships. SOME CAPSTONE TOPICS

  • NASA RockOn! project: Participants in RockOn! receive instruction on the basics required to develop a scientific payload for flight on a suborbital rocket
  • Autonomous Vehicle Project (AVT): Learn the basics of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and software to build, operate, and control a small  autonomous vehicle to meet the evGrandPrix competition requirements.
  • CanSat project:Teams must be able to design and build a space-type system, following the approved competition guide, and then compete against each at the end of two semesters to determine the winners.
