If you have been selected for verification, you must verify the income you reported on your FAFSA. This can be done two ways and instructions are provided below. Option 1 (IRS Data Retrieval) is recommended because it is faster. By requesting Data Retrieval, you are giving permission to have your IRS data automatically transferred to your FAFSA. Not everyone, however, is eligible to request for Data Retrieval. If so, you may select Option 2 and request for a Tax Transcript to be mailed to you. If you recently filed your taxes, you may have to wait a period of time before you can request for Data Retrieval or a Tax Transcript (2 wks. if taxes filed electronically or 8 weeks if taxes filed by mail.
NOTE: If you did not file a federal tax return because you are not required to file, see the Verification Worksheet for further instructions.
