We Need GIS Project Ideas!

Backburner
Have a project you’ve been meaning to get to? Can’t seem to find the time or the manpower to GPS all of those locations? Our GIS Certificate students will be supervised by their GIS instructor and can help you finish those back-burner projects. Deadline to request GIS student help is Wednesday October 28, 2015.

Our GIS 180 students are about to begin their semester and would love to partner with your company or organization on their final GIS project. We have had great success with our GIS Certificate students teaming up with local companies and organizations to complete a GIS project in 8 weeks. This can benefit you AND our students by offering real on the job skills, providing you with project data to use later and introducing you to some of our local GIS talent. Students may also be able to get Service Learning credits for participating with local non-profits on their GIS projects.

Our student project topics have varied widely in their theme and scope, but past topics have included:
Shrimp Farms in Maui
Conservation and Stewardship Farming Practices: Using GIS in Precision Agriculture
Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company: Energy Efficiency
Shoreline Environmental Water Quality in South Maui
Maui Archaeology: GIS in Action in Honokowai Valley
Kahoʻolawe Mice Bloom
Kula Forest Fire: Past Lessons, Future Preventions

To submit your project ideas or talk through them with the GIS program at UHMC, please contact Sarah Bryan by October 28th via email at smclane@hawaii.edu or by filling out this Google form. We welcome the opportunity to match our GIS students with your projects!
