  • May 2013

    The Hawaii State Legislature appropriated $3.5 million to renovate the HA of Maui.


  • March 2012

    The Hawaii Tourism Authority awarded $25,000 for HA of Maui curriculum development (in collaboration with the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association), website design, and development of marketing collateral.


  • February 2012

    IMG_0843A “soft blessing” of the temporary HA of Maui units was held with Maui County Council members, the governor's liaison, and industry and community leaders, in attendance.  The HA of Maui project has the support of Maui County’s Mayor and County Council members.


  • September 2011

    labsHOST students in the Rooms Division Operations I class began using the HA of Maui as a lab; faculty began creating projects integrating the “lab concept”


  • July 2011

    supporters_1Two HA of Maui units were temporarily renovated to be used as lab space for the HOST Program.  The Grand Wailea, Four Seasons Resort Maui, Honua Kai Resort & Spa, Makena Beach & Golf Resort, Hotel Wailea, Destination Resorts Hawaii and Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas donated furniture, fixtures and equipment to temporarily outfit two units.  The College’s Building & Maintenance staff, Operations & Maintenance staff, along with Hospitality & Tourism Advisory Committee members and volunteers from the Maui Fire Department and community, helped clean, refurbish and paint the units.


  • July 2011

    The Hospitality & Tourism program is granted accreditation through the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Adminstration.


  • May 2011

    Gilbert and Associates LogoGilbert & Associates, LLC provided pro bono marketing and design services.


  • May 2011

    Munekiyo & Hiraga, LLC, provided pro-bono planning services to guide the renovation through Maui County’s Special Management Area requirements and the permitting process. A Special Management Area Exemption (SM5) was granted.


  • May 2011

    s+n-stampShimokawa & Nakamura, AIA, completed schematic plans for the HA of Maui renovation. The project is shovel-ready.


  • April 2010

    UH Community College System allocated $250,000 to complete HA of Maui architectural drawings.

    _DSC0001The establishment of the HA of Maui is endorsed by The Grand Wailea, Four Seasons Resort Maui, Fairmont Kea Lani, Honua Kai Resort & Spa, Hotel Wailea, Makena Beach & Golf Resort, Destination Resorts Hawaii, Gilbert & Associates, Maui Hotel & Lodging Association, Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce, Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas, Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, Westin Maui Resort & Spa, and Travaasa Hotel Hana among other businesses and organizations.

dormitory was vacated in Fall 2008.Hale Haumana, UH Maui College’s dormitories, were vacated.  This presented a tremendous opportunity for the College and community to collaborate and create a fully functioning teaching hotel.
