Summer Bridge

Our goal is to increase the number of Hawaiian students who earn college degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). This summer bridge program offers 25 high school students an opportunity to improve mathematical, critical thinking and inquiry skills through an innovative and effective math, Hawaiian culture and interdisciplinary studies curriculum.

Makemakika
Students will earn three college credits in Math 23 for Algebra I. The course will be taught using the Cognitive Tutor curriculum that combines software-based, individualized computer lessons with collaborative, real-world problem-solving activities. Students spend about 40% of their class time using the software, and the balance of their time engaged in classroom problem-solving activities.

Moolelo
Students will also learn the history of Maui through Hawaiian moolelo. The students will engage in creative reading and writing activities developed to improve skills and motivation.  Students will experience a variety of learning environments including weekly field trips.

Interdisciplinary Studies 104B
Students will identify and develop their strengths and weaknesses through a curriculum that facilitates self-exploration and reflection and application.
