IHM at Kaho‘olawe Exhibit at Bailey House Museum

On Friday, October 10th from 6 – 9 PM, students of the Institute of Hawaiian music will be performing at an opening reception for the new exhibition “He Moku Poina ‘Ole, An Island Not Forgotten” at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku. The exhibition will be on view through November 3, 2014. IHM Students and George Kahumoku at Moonlight Mele This Saturday

Our Institute of Hawaiian Music students will be joining George Kahumoku Jr again at this Saturday’s Moonlight Mele concert at the Maui Historical Society/Bailey House Museum in Wailuku. The event opens at 6PM, music begins at 7. General admission is $20, kama‘āina admission is $10, children are free. We hope to see you there!

IHM Students Perform at Maui Steel Guitar Festival!

A number of students in our inaugual Elementary Hawaiian Steel Guitar class peformed at the Maui Steel Guitar Festival this past Saturday at the Ka‘ānapali Beach Hotel. Mahalo to their kumu Joel Katz for preparing and accompanying them during the performance. Many in attendance were suprised but delighted to learn that steel guitar is a regular course at Music at UH Maui College, and will be offered again next semester.

We will be offering a combined Elementary and Intermediate steel guitar class in the fall. Please stay tuned for details!
