My name is Toni Matsuda and I am a peer mentor for the HUI KUKUI Peer Mentoring Program. I am originally from Hāna and I am currently living in Kahului where I can be closer to work and school. I graduated from Kamehameha Schools Maui in 2010 and decided to further my education at the University of Hawaii Maui College. In 2012, I graduated from UHMC with my Associates Degree in Liberal Arts and Subject Certificate in Hawaiian Studies. Then, in 2013, I graduated with my Associates Degree in Hawaiian Studies. I am currently in the Manoa Outreach Program, which allows me to be a student of UH Mānoa while here at home on Maui. In this program, I hope to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in Social Work.
I have been a peer mentor for over a year now and being a student myself, I hope to help others avoid the struggles that I have gone through in my first year of college. I am always available to assist anyone and I am always excited to work with passionate students who are motivated to achieve their educational goals and aspirations. Don’t be shy and please feel free to ask me anything.
I am an aunty of 4, 1 girl and 3 boys, and they inspire me each and every day to become a better person and an even better role model. Like most people, my family is my motivation to get through school and obtain the career of my dreams so that I will be able to support them and give them a better life. In all that I do, I aspire to represent my kupuna through all my actions and future endeavors.
