Kākoʻo Virtual Help Desk

This help desk provides general assistance such as accessing UH web resources, using Laulima, navigating course websites, and troubleshooting various learning tools. Services such as tutoring require appointments.

Help Desk hours is from 9 am to 4pm Monday to Thursday.

Kākoʻo Peer Tutor Appointments

STAR Balance is our scheduler that connects you with academic counseling, tutoring, and other support services. Students will be able to see available time slots and book appointments in STAR Balance. Appointments take place in person at in Room 101 at the Library or via Zoom.

Submit an Essay for Review

If you would like to submit an essay or a paper to have a tutor review and provide comments, completely fill out the form and attach your assignment and essay.

A tutor will respond to your request or send back your paper with suggestions within 48 hours, or 72 hours if on a weekend. We accept, PDF, Google Docs, or Word files.

Start Smart provides strategies for succeeding in college courses. It is divided into 8 sections. You can do them in order or jump around and complete them at will. Each section has tips, videos, and comprehension checks.

How to schedule an appointment with a Tutor

Tutors are available to meet with you in-person or online.

  1. Login to STAR Balance via star.hawaii.edu/appointment/
  2. Select “Tutoring, Tech & Learning Centers” from the left navigation pane
  3. Select “UHMC Kakoʻo Support”
  4. View the available time slots and select the time you would like to make an appointment.
  5. Complete the pop-up form with information about your tutoring appointment.
  6. Check your Hawaii.edu email for your appointment confirmation.

In-Person appointments will be in Library 101 at the UHMC campus. Online appointments will be on Zoom. Starting February 17, 2024, in person tutoring will be at the TLC building.
