Troubleshooting Remote Database Access

Having trouble accessing a remote database? Try the following:

  • always access databases and Voyager directly from the MCC Library website links
  • bookmarked links or shortcuts will not work off campus
  • need your UH ID number? get it here
  • you must be currently registered with the library, call circulation to check 984-3233
  • fines/fees of over $10 will block your access, check your account here
  • reboot your computer—do a cold reboot, by actually turning off your computer
  • security software could be blocking the website, lower your firewall security level
  • Javascript and cookies should be enabled in your browser
  • add the hawaii.edu domain to your browser's trusted sites
  • stored cookies can cause problems with accessing databases off campus. To delete your cookies, just follow the browser-specific steps below. (Please note that while deleting your cookies may resolve the problem, it will also remove your saved settings for sites you've previously visited.)

    Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE)

    1. Open IE and click on the "Tools" menu.
    2. Select "Internet Options."
    3. Click on the "General" tab if it isn't selected already.
    4. Under the heading "Temporary Internet files," click on "Delete Cookies..."
    5. Click "OK" for the "Delete all cookies in the Temporary Internet Files folder?" prompt.
    6. Click "OK" to exit.

    Mozilla Firefox

    1. Open Firefox and click on the "Tools" menu.
    2. Select "Options."
    3. Click on the "Privacy" icon on the left.
    4. Select "Cookies" and click on "Clear."
    5. Select adwords.google.com from the list and press "remove cookie."
    6. Click "OK" to exit.
  • clear your browser cache, to clear your cache, just follow the browser-specific steps below.

    Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE)

    1. Click the "Tools" menu at the top of your browser, and select "Internet Options."
    2. Click the "General" tab at the top of the dialogue box.
    3. Click "Delete Files" under "Temporary Internet files."
    4. Select "Delete all offline content" by checking the box.
    5. Click "OK."

    Mozilla Firefox

    1. Click the "Tools" menu at the top of your browser, and select "Options."
    2. Click "Privacy."
    3. Click '"Clear" next to '"Cache."
    4. Click "OK."

    In some cases, it may be necessary to clear your cache more than once.
