Windsurfing on Maui
With such world-class spots within 20 minutes of the college, it's obvious why windsurfing is a popular sport with students on Maui. Hookipa Beach Park on the north side (East of Lower Paia) has become the windsurfing capital of the world and is the site of two major world-class competitions. Mai Poina Oe Lau Beach Park in Kihei is another favorite spot. Conditions at Hookipa allow for experts to "carve" the perfect wave and perform unbelievable aerial maneuvers. Waves can break up to heights of ten to fifteen, sometimes twenty-five feet during the winter months.
