Step Two: TB Clearance & MMR*

  • Submit a TB clearance and proof of Measles, Mumps, & Rubella (MMR) immunization to Admissions. If you need an MMR vaccination or TB test, you can go to the Wailuku Public Health Center or the MCC Health Center. Call 984-3493 for information.

*The MMR requirement is waived for Hawaii high school graduates and those born before 1957.

Step Three: Take a Placement Test

  • Math & English placement tests are necessary for appropriate course selection. Placement tests are given at The Learning Center (TLC) on a walk-in basis (therefore, students need not make appointments.) The average testing time is 1 hour per test. Call 984-3240 for more information. Calculators are allowed in the math placement test. English consists of reading comprehension (read a story and answer questions about it) and editing a story for grammar and content. Click on the sentence – the computer will offer you 5 other choices for that sentence (a to e). Read all the choices and click on the one that sounds best. You will get the results before you leave. If you would like to review some practice questions on the Compass English and Math placement tests TLC has a web site: http://www.hawaii.edu/mcc/tlc/flash/index.html. Click on testing. Spend some time navigating around in that section. See Maggie for information on English Reading/Writing placement results.

Step Four: Apply for Financial Aid (if needed)

  • File the FAFSA electronically at EOC, by mail, or over the Internet at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. The FAFSA requires information from your tax return. Money is awarded on a “first-in, first served” basis. To make MCC’s priority deadline of March 1, you should submit your FAFSA by February. However, you may apply at any time during the current school year. For help completing the FAFSA or information on other financial aid resources, call EOC at 984-3286.
  • Towards the end of the FAFSA, you will be asked where you want to send your FAFSA results. Be sure to put MCC’s code (001615) in this section.

Step Five: Attend a Nursing Orientation/Meet with a Counselor for Advanced Standing

  • Held twice a month in the nursing conference room. Call 984-3250 to let them know you will attend. Should take about 1 hour. Bring placement test results.
  • For academic advising to assist in course scheduling, call 984-3306 for an appointment after you have attended nursing orientation.
  • For transcript evaluation have transcripts sent to Admissions & Records, make an appointment with a Counselor for Advanced Standing to get credits transferred.
