The Kabatak Club in UH Maui College will hold its General Membership meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 13 from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Library Study Room 1 and will feature Chef Instructor Jake Belmonte as guest speaker.
Belmonte will talk about “Globalizing our Filipinoness in Language, Art, Music, Culture and Food,” and lead a discussion on the latest trends and current direction of Filipino talent in those areas. He will also share initiatives on Maui to perpetuate the culture. Belmonte is an active community organizer for various nonprofits, including the Bahay Kubo Heritage Foundation, Blue Zones Maui, and is chairing the Maui Fil-Am Heritage Festival in October by the Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
Kabatak Club President Sam Peralta encourages the public interested to hear from Belmonte to join the meeting, especially students in the campus community. Kabatak Club’s mission is to promote the Filipino culture and give back through community service.
