| ASUHMC Student Governance

The Associated Students of University of Hawaii Maui College (ASUHMC) is the official student organization and the representing governing body of the ASUHMC. The Governance Council is responsible for administering student activity fees and for developing and providing programs, services, and activities to meet student needs. The Governance Council also serves as the collective voice for students in student-related issues. Students are invited to participate in the college’s development by serving on council committees.

Board of Student Publications (BOSP) Elisabeth Armstrong The BOSP serves in an advisory role in the publication of the student newspaper, Ho’oulu, Maui Review, student handbook and planner, and other student publications. To participate on the Board or in the production of any of the publications, please call 984-3552 or 984-3434. Critical Mass | Website Jennifer Sim Egami: Jsim@hawaii.edu Gary Hamrick: Garyvif@hawaii.rr.com Critical Mass is a student led organization that exists to equip students to maximize their potential in their studies, and in their daily lives, through close fellowship and servant hood. Critical Mass will serve as a home away from home for students of all backgrounds and ethnicity. Critical Mass will aid students with their academic endeavors in any way the organization is equipped to do so based upon membership. The organization seeks to provide fellowship with other students, whom they work alongside to make their campus and community a better place. Hui Ho’okipa Lorelle Peros To perpetuate the spirit of aloha within the setting of the tourism and hospitality industry. To network with the community by going in-depth into specific industry areas and making a difference, while learning Hui Lei Ola (Hawaiian Club) Wini Chung, Kulamanu Ishihara: vorhies@hawaii.edu The Hawaiian Club works to stimulate an interest in Hawaiian culture and values and supports the education of Hawaiian students. Club activities include fundraising, community service, and culturally significant programs. The Peace Club is a diverse group of students committed to ho’o maluhia (making peace). This club promotes nonviolent solutions to aid in ending world conflict and provides opportunities for the UHMC community to participate in social justice events.

Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society Ellen Peterson: epeterso@hawaii.edu Emma White ehw@hawaii.edu Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society. Its purpose is to recognize and encourage scholarship among community college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa provides opportunities for the development of leadership, fellowship, scholarship, and service. To qualify for membership, students must have completed 12 or more credits at the College, be enrolled toward a degree, and have a grade point ratio of 3.5 or better with no F, incomplete I, or NC grade recorded for the semester. Rotaract Club Patty lau:pattylau@hawaii.edu Rotaract is a program under Rotary that focuses on the 4 Avenues of Service: Community Service, International Service, Vocational Service & Club Service. This organization gives members the opportunity to serve in the community and to create world peace and international understanding. Rotaract gives young professionals the opportunity to network with other young professionals to build on existing skills and knowledge. This club is not only about business and service, but it also gives members a chance to enjoy good company with like-minded people. Rotaractors have various socials and other events throughout the year as a way to get away from the pressures of school, work, and family and just have a good time. Tech Club Debasis Bhattacharya, techclub@hawaii.edu The Tech Club’s goal is to provide an organization for technology majors and other students with a passion for technology so they may share that passion and knowledge with each other and the outside world. The club also organizes fun and challenging technological activities for students on campus. Kiku No Kai Hiroko DeLeon Increase student’s understanding of the uniqueness of the Japanese Culture Club Ku’ina Shirley Cox, scox@hawaii.edu Club Ku`ina strives to promote appreciation of the island by increasing awareness of local economic issues through various FUN community service projects while simultaneously creating a positive and proactive social environment to foster relationships between fellow students.
