INTRO

Students team building activity.

ALOHA!

TRiO Upward Bound is an engaging educational program that prepares low-income first-generation high school students for college. The program consists of a summer and academic-year component for Maui County participants.  Participants enter program during their early high school years and continue with the program until high school graduation.  Upward Bound is sponsored by the University of Hawaii Maui College with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Education.  The program is offered at no cost to parents or students.

UB TUTORING (ongoing)

Come join your friends at Upward Bound after school tutoring at UH Maui College (Baldwin, King Kekaulike, and Maui High Schools) and online (Skype, Google Chat, UH Manoa Math Tutoring, or Phone)!  Tutoring will be every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at UH Maui College from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in hte Kaiao Building (see Spring 2012 Tutoring Flyer for exact dates).

We can help with Math, Science, class projects, papers, writing, and more.  Tutoring is mandatory for those earning less than a C in core subjects (Math, Science, English, Foreign Language, etc.). For more information and transportation arrangements, please see UB Tutoring Flyer and Tutoring Permission FormIf you are already receiving help at school, please ask UB Counselor for a Tutoring Waiver Form to let us know you are working on improving your grades.

VIRTUAL TUTORING:

  • Skype: upward.bound during tutoring hours (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 2:30-4:30 p.m.)
  • Math via Chat @UH Manoa: http://manoa.hawaii.edu/ola (available M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.)
  • GoogleTalk: chat with us via MauiUpwardBound on gmail during tutoring hours (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 2:30-4:30 p.m.). You will need a gmail account, call us with questions (984-3299)

IMPORTANT NOTE:If you need to use MEO transportation from your high school to UH Maui College (available to Maui High and Baldwin students from school to campus, available to Lahainaluna students from school to UHMC Lahaina Ed Center), please complete the MEO Youth Transportation Application.  You will need to submit this at least 1 week prior to attending so we can give you the pass to ride.

If you have special arrangements, such as taking the public bus home, riding with a friend, or leaving early/coming late, you will need to complete the Special Request Form for UB to approve your request.  Requests must be submitted for the UB Director’s approval 24 hours in advance.
