What is...
The Upward Bound Program?

Upward Bound is a program that prepares low-income, first generation high school students for college. The program on Maui is sponsored by Maui Community College with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Education. Total funding for the 2007-2008 grant year is $378,499. Upward Bound is offered at no cost to the parents or students.

The program consists of two components:

      1. UB Summer Program
      2. UB Academic Year Program

Students may participate in the program for up to four years. It begins with the freshman year and ends with the summer after high school graduation. Once a student is accepted in the program they are expected to stay until the summer after high school graduation.
