MY LIFE’S JOURNEY

Kaci Sagayaga

My life’s journey is a river.

Clear waters from melting snow.

Run from valleys.

Jump over stones.

The taste of cold water is a bee sting.

Awakens my skin

as I cup my hands

and see liquid seep.

Smooth stones define the river’s borders

clean and stacked upon each other.

Gray, white, and black balance together.

It just takes a nudge to change the flow.

Slow flowing river is my background music.

Invisible animals

screech, growl, howl,

echo in the deep valley.

The sun will set soon,

which ends another day,

yet still the river flows

over rocks and over stones.

Kaci is a UHMC student currently taking English 104, Introduction to Creative Writing, taught by Paul Wood.
