“The Fall” by Krislynn Saludares

“The Fall” by Krislynn Saludares
April 11, 2019 Nā Leo Literary Review

I sat in a boat going with the current of the river.

I listened to the birds sing and

admired all of the beauty around me.

I felt as if nothing could go wrong. I felt safe

Until I heard the sound of rushing water.

Could it be? A waterfall?

And it was.

But I was the one to be falling off.

As my boat approached the edge of the cliff,

I prepared myself for the fall down the waterfall.

The fall was not short and graceful.

I held on tight to the seat of my boat as I fell

a long ways down.

Water began to fill my boat. I began to wonder

what I did to deserve this.

I tumbled and I cried.

I got bruised and scarred.

I hit the bottom of the waterfall and my boat plopped right up.

I ended up surviving the fall.

I could see the sun on the horizon.

I could hear the palms of the palm trees swaying in the wind.

I felt the warmth of the sun on my wet skin.

Once I got over the fear of falling again,

I realized that the new river I was on had the most beautiful view.
