“Jealousy” by Chloe Jones-Livingston

“Jealousy” by Chloe Jones-Livingston
April 27, 2019 Nā Leo Literary Review

I met her knife when I was only a child.

She stabbed me in the gut

And threatened to rip out my heart.

Her knife was laced with poison.

It filled my bloodstream

And burned a hole in my stomach.

She lit a fire in my eyes.

A fuse was lit

And carried down my veins.

She took my mother once.

She turned my mother’s hands into gloves.

She fried her heart and made a sandwich

Only to be thrown in the icebox.

She takes love and turns it to ice.

My lover dove into her sea.

She dragged him down until he couldn’t breathe.

She uses the hearts of past victims as bait.

A decadent, mouth-watering cake

Is covered in heart icing.
