The Nā Leo Team is proud to announce the March 2020 Student of the Month: Madison Zeller!

Madison is a creative, curious, and adventurous student. She is originally from Massachusetts and has lived on the island of Molokaʻi for five years.
Madison is passionate about art, pottery, and food sovereignty. When asked about what inspires her work she said, “I have always loved to create and to express my thoughts through art mediums. My everyday thoughts and feelings inspire my artwork.”
As March’s Contest Winner, Madison decided to share the story behind her winning piece “Panacea”:
“I was inspired by Wayne Kaumualiʻi Westlake’s concrete poem about Hawaiian sovereignty. I believe that freedom begins with food sovereignty. Therefore, the message of this piece is to plant kalo, or any staple crop; anything you can eat and share with your family, friends, and neighbors. During a government enforced a stay-at-home order, we have the power to reclaim our food supply right from home.”

We are beyond honored to showcase the inspiring work of Madison!
