“Dream” by Allison Bacay

“Dream” by Allison Bacay
May 18, 2020 Nā Leo Literary Review

At dusk, we close our eyes waiting for the beam of light

Dream, circle, and grieve

While the universe continues to scheme

Like those who intertwine the mortals’ destiny.

Into the cosmos where the forbidden fruit lies

Let it be bubblegum, chocolate, sweet caramel, or cotton candy

As lavender, cerulean, and periwinkle stain the galaxy.

Through infinite possibilities is where we glow

See and believe

In the illusions of desire

mixed with sage in a ruse,

So follow me and lull yourself to sleep,

let yourself be out of reach.

Dream,

an eternal spell of optics and fantasy,

Like the immortals who cast away life,

For a temporary relief

Residing in the deep cramp corners of the soul

Like all our primordial instincts,

From so long ago
