“Sea” by Marlon Bottorff

“Sea” by Marlon Bottorff
May 18, 2020 Nā Leo Literary Review

Being lost at sea can be the scariest thing ever,

But can also be the most liberating feeling possible.

No worries, no drama, just you and the ocean,

The freedom felt is unmatched to anything else known to man.

The swaying and rolling waves of the ocean are calming, yet unpredictable.

The unpredictability creates the freedom of not knowing what will happen,

Sometimes accepting the unknown can unfold a feeling that hasn’t been felt before.

The sea can make you see things that are incredibly beautiful.

Once you’re lost at sea there is no going back,

You are one with the ocean now, one with the strongest element known to man.

Sitting in your raft with a bucket hat on and a fishing rod in one hand,

And a canteen of water in the other.

Eating fresh fish, and enjoying the time of nothingness.

This can change a man,

For better or for worse.

It allows time for self-reflection and reviewing all the beautiful things in life,

Maybe things you would have never seen before.

As you spend the rest of your life out on the sea,

You will always be grateful just simply to be.
