Aloha,
Thank you for your interest in submitting your artwork to Nā Leo, UHMC’s literary journal. Nā Leo is honored to proudly showcase the artistic and creative talents of the students, faculty, and staff of UHMC. We appreciate your willingness to share your artwork with the UH Maui College community. It is submissions like yours that help showcase the talents, creativity, and diversity of our campus. So, how do you get started?
1) Creative submissions include, but are not limited to, poetry, short stories, creative non-fiction, memoirs, mixed-media, collages, graphic design, photography, paintings, drawings, short film, film of original dance choreography, original musical compositions, and photos of sculpture, jewelry, culinary arts projects, and fashion pieces. You can submit your work by sending it to naleolit@hawaii.edu.
2) When submitting your work, please include the following elements:
- For written works, include:
- your name, and the title of the work.
- For visual artworks, include:
- the title of the piece, medium, and your name. If you wish, you may include
- a short description of the inspiration or meaning of the work.
- For musical creations, include:
- the name of all individuals involved with their roles/contributions, title of the song, and instruments featured.
- For video submissions, include:
- your name, title of the work, and names of all individuals involved with their roles/contributions.
3) All work should be original and created by you. Copies of any one else’s copyrighted material will not be considered for publication. If your work is inspired by the work of another artist, please state the artist and work that provided the inspiration.
4) Photos, videos, and audio submissions should be of high quality. Photos should be an image resolution of between 72ppi-133ppi. Acceptable file formats are jpg, gif, and png. Video submissions should be a minimum of 720p resolution and no longer than 15 minutes in length.
5) Submissions should be appropriate for student audiences. (Please refrain from sexual content, graphic imagery, and excessive use of profanity.)
6) Finally, we do not guarantee publishing of all submissions. If your work is published, you will be notified and entered into a random drawing to win a $50 stipend prize. Your work will also be entered into a monthly contest. Monthly contest winners will receive a $100 stipend prize. Each student may only win one prize ($50 OR $100) per month. Students are only eligible to win the $100 stipend prize once a semester.
