October 9, 2023 Aysha Jarnesky

The University of Hawaii Maui College’s Nā Leo Literary Review is a beacon of creativity and expression for students to showcase talent. Each semester the college’s diverse student body highlights the unique culture and landscapes of Maui. Students are encouraged to express their artistic voices and share their unique perspectives by submitting artwork of any medium to earn extra cash and be published on the UH Maui Na Leo Literary Reviews online platforms. The team at Na Leo are optimistic and have unveiled this semester’s submissions theme.

In the wake of the devastating Maui wildfires, the theme for this semester’s artistic submissions is “Maui Strong.” This theme invites students to submit artwork of any medium that reflects the resilience and strength of the Maui community in the face of adversity. The Maui wildfires were a tragic event that deeply impacted the island and its people, thus the “Maui Strong” motto was coined. It serves as a powerful reminder of the community’s ability to come together, rebuild, and flourish even in the most challenging times. Students can pay tribute to La hui, and plant seeds of hope for the spirit of Maui in the aftermath of a tragedy.
