Sparking Student Engagement in College & Career Pathways

Billed as a Zero Waste Event, the Workforce Development & Community Needs and Sustainability Strategic Direction Committees and EOC Office partnered with Iao Intermediate School to discuss:

  • The challenges Iao School teachers face to spark interest among their students to think about college and careers
  • Ways Iao school teachers can integrate teaching strategies presented today
  • In what ways can UHMC and Iao School work together to support student engagement

*Sustainability Committee chair Nicolette van der Lee for sharing Flow Theory; Mike Ferguson – STEM Chemistry; Jenny Shih – Astronomy; Nick Okamoto – STEM Math; Tim Botkin – SSM; Elizabeth Duboit – Engineering Tech; Debasis Bhattacharya – ABIT; Brian Kohne – Creative Media; Craig Omori – Culinary; Anne Emmsley – CTE Ag; Thomas Hussey & Lawrence Martinson – CTE Automotive; Sunny Cabello, Chris Speere & Dean Louie – Extended Learning & WD! Program faculty provided an overview of their program, student learning outcomes, career pathways for their program, possible jobs of the future and an effective instructional technique used to engage students in their respective disciplines.
