Session 2: Communication in Intercultural Relationships – Communication in the Context of COVID

Date: November 20, 2020

Presenters: Communication Assistant Professor Whitney Hashimoto and Leeward Community College Assistant Professor of Communication Michelle Mahi

In this session, we will discuss the nature of intercultural communication, bearing in mind that we are currently facing a global pandemic that necessitates communicative cooperation and collaboration on an international level. We will start by looking at several dimensions of cultural variability that can be used to differentiate cultures. We will then examine how these dimensions can help explain differences in verbal and nonverbal communication across cultures. To conclude, we will share best practices for communicating competently in intercultural relationships.
