New Faculty Initiative
Purpose and Description
To support new faculty in their University of Hawaii Maui College personal and professional endeavors and development. These learning opportunities are designed to maximize your professional growth.
Faculty Learning Outcomes
Understand the mission, vision and culture of the college, actualize their value as a faculty member and have a positive impact moving forward.
Develop skills and utilize resources to best meet position expectations and effectively perform job duties.
Apply knowledge of our students, schools & community to better meet the need of all.
Deepen understanding of self in context of the political, racial, linguistic, gender, ethnic history and environment of our community to continuously evolve as a professional and a community member.
Support Competencies
Increase understanding of the diverse communities our college serves
Develop skills to better connect with our students, their gifts, and their challenges through the context of their lives
Build resiliency to handle professional challenges in their participation at the college
Understand and navigate the UH and UHMC systems
Establish relationships and build a professional network across disciplines, departments, and units
Prepare to use best practices in teaching or supporting students in your position
Develop a sense of kuleana for Integrated Student Support
Understand and illustrate the Kaʻao framework
