Teach STEM in Hawaii
With the introduction of the STEM Teacher Certification Pipeline (STCP) project, the University of Hawai‘i Maui College (UHMC) seeks to recruit, train, and retain K-12 STEM teachers in high-need educational districts in Hawai‘i by creating a state-wide network of teacher-certification programs.
To meet this goal, UHMC is applying for a capacity-building National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to help build the infrastructure that will lead to the development of the first track of a long-term program supported by The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarships and Stipends Track (S&S), which provides scholarships to undergraduate STEM majors and offers stipends to STEM professionals who become certified teachers in their respective fields.
During this initial stage, the STCP program is building a pipeline to identify and support those STEM professionals interested in a career in K-12 STEM teaching in high-need school districts. The STCP program is in collaboration with the Hawai‘i State Department of Education, University of Hawai‘i at Manoa — College of Education, Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources, and community experts. Learn more about future stages of the program.
