CSA Training 1-5-22*

Campus Security Authority (CSA) Training

Date: January 5, 2022

Presenters: Angela Gannon (Security Chief) and Shawna Pabingwit (Title IX Coordinator)

The function of a CSA is to report allegations of certain serious crimes that have been disclosed to him/her in good faith. Maui College has designated the Campus Security Department as the repository for CSA’s to report their annual Clery crime statistics.

The Jeanne Clery Act mandates that each institution is required to report statistics concerning the occurrence of certain criminal offenses reported to the local police agency or any official of the institution who has “significant responsibility for student and campus activities.” This position is defined as a Campus Security Authority. CSAs must be trained and aware of their responsibilities.

The following individuals or groups are considered CSAs:

  • Campus Security Personnel
  • Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
  • Faculty Advisors (Counselors) to Student Groups
  • Program Coordinators
  • Campus Club and Student Group Advisors
  • Any UHMC official who has significant responsibility for student and campus activities

The Craft of Teaching

The purpose of the Craft of Teaching initiative is to create learning cohorts of instructors to support each other’s growth in the craft of teaching. Members will learn strategies for making courses more engaging, teaching content more effectively, improving and assessing student mastery, while enhancing professionalism and the intrinsic rewards and joys of teaching.

Cohorts are formed at the beginning of each semester and last for two semesters. Cohorts meet face-to-face usually every other week during a semester based on the availability of the interested instructors.
