If you are a student loan borrower returning to school and enrolled at least half time at an eligible school, you may be eligible to postpone your loan(s) with an In-School Deferment Request. For multiple loan servicers, send and complete a form for each of your servicers. If you know who your federal loan servicer(s) are, skip step 1.

STEP 1: Know your federal loan servicer(s): Follow these directions to know who your federal loan servicer is and details about your student loan.

1. Go to studentaid.gov
2. Click on ‘LOG IN’
3. Log-in using your FSA ID username & password required (fsaid.ed.gov)
4. Review conditions and click ‘Accept’ to continue
5. At the dashboard, you can review your student federal loan & pell grant information.
6. For details on your loan servicer, click on the blue font, ‘VIEW LOAN SERVICER DETAILS’ at the bottom right of the MY AID box.
   1. Once you navigate to ‘VIEW LOAN SERVICER DETAILS’, you will notice a listing of your student loans with servicer details. Please note: If you have more than one servicer, you will need to communicate and review with all your assigned servicers during repayment.

STEP 2: Completing and Submitting an In-School Deferment Request

1. Obtain an In-School Deferment Request form. Here are a few ways to get the form:
   1. Register & Login at your loan servicer website to access a pre-filled or/downloadable pdf.
   3. Request a form by email or mail from your federal student loan servicer
2. Directions to complete the In-School Deferment Request (Type or print with dark ink)
   1. Section 1: Complete Borrower Information section with your current information.
   2. Section 2: Read and Review Eligibility Information
   3. Section 3:
      1. Write your name and social security number at top of page.
      2. Read, Review, Sign and Date under Borrower Requests, Understandings, Certifications, & Authorization.
   4. Section 4: To be completed by Admissions office.
   5. Section 5, 6, 8: Read and Review
   6. Section 7: Where to send the completed deferment request?
      1. For currently enrolled UH Maui students, be sure to list the name and fax number of your federal student loan servicer in the left section.
      2. For multiple servicers, send and complete a form for each of your servicers.
   7. If you have further questions about completing the form, contact your federal student loan servicer directly.
3. Submit the In-School Deferment request form
   1. For currently enrolled UH-Maui college students, please submit the form electronically to our Admissions and Records department at uhmcar@hawaii.edu.
