Duo Mobile Authentication Changes
Have you changed your phone and/or phone number and lost access to Duo Mobile? Please see the steps below!
Changed Phone number
If you have received a new phone number, you will need to contact the central IT Office, UH ITS Help Desk, for assistance. They may be reached at:

Changed Phones but kept the same Phone number
1. Install 'Duo Mobile' from your new phone's app store.
2. Log into https://www.hawaii.edu/its/uhlogin/device-reg/
3. At the Check for a Duo Push page, click on 'Other Options'.
4. You may select either 'Text message passcode' or 'Phone call'.
a. If you select 'Text message passcode' enter the code you received in your text messages.
b. If you select 'Phone call'
i. Pick up the phone and press '1' to authenticate your login.
5. You will be taken to the UH Login Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Device Registration page.
6. Under the University of Hawaii seal, click on 'My Settings & Devices'.
7. It will ask you to authenticate once again. Choose either 'Call Me' or 'Enter a Passcode'. These
options are similar to the ones in Step 4.
8. Once authenticated, you will see a list of your Devices. One of them will be your phone number.
Click on its 'Device Options' button.
9. Click on the 'Reactivate Duo Mobile' Button and specify what type of phone you're using.
10. Click on the 'I have Duo Mobile installed' button.
11. The page will display a QR code.
12. On your phone, open up Duo Mobile and click on the 'Add +' button in the top right.
13. On the menu that pops up, select 'Use QR code'. Give Duo permission to use your camera
and scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen.
14. Once scanned, the QR code will be grayed out with a green checkmark on top. This means that
Duo has been successfully activated on your new phone.
15. Click the 'Continue' button to finish the setup.
16. To test Duo, try logging into gmail.hawaii.edu.
17. Open Duo to approve the login.
If you remember your password.
1. Visit hawaii.edu/username/
2. Click on the 'One-Step Password Change' Button
3. On the new page, enter your UH username into the 'UH Username' box
4. Enter your current password into the next box below.
5. Enter your new password.
Keep in mind that it must meet the following requirements:
a. Must be 8-32 characters long
b. Have at least one uppercase letter.
c. Have at least one lowercase letter.
d. Have at least one number.
e. Have at least one special character
i. DON'T USE ( ) ' " < > :
6. Reenter your password into the final box below the password requirements.
7. Click the box to agree to accept the UH Executive Policy E2.210
8. Click the 'Change Password' button.
If you DON'T remember your password and remember your secret questions/have Duo.
1. Visit hawaii.edu/username/
2. Click on the 'Get a UH Username' button
3. You will be taken to a new page. Enter your identifying information into the Check Status Form box.
4. The page will reload and ask to verify your identity. You can verify through the following steps.
a. Option 1 - Using Duo:
i. Click on the 'Use Multi-Factor Authentication' button.
ii. The website will give you a code, open up Duo and enter the code into the app.
b. Option 2 - Answering Secret Questions
i. Click on the 'Answer Secret Questions' button
ii. Answer the secret questions listed on the page
iii. Click on the 'Check Answers' button.
5. Once you have successfully authenticated your login, create your new password. Make sure that the new password follows the password requirements stated on the left.
6. Enter your new password in the 'Confirm New Password' box then click 'Reset Password'.
If you DON'T remember your password, secret questions, and don't have Duo activated.
1. Reach out to the UHMC IT Help Desk via phone or email to request a password reset.
2. In order to reset your password we will need to see your student or government issued ID.
This can be done remotely or in person.
a. Remote - email a picture of the front and back of your ID to uhmchelp@hawaii.edu and request
a password reset. We will schedule a time that you may meet via Zoom.
b. In person - stop by Kaaike 220 with your ID so that we may reset your password for you.
