Distance Instruction Policy

Distance Instruction

Distance instruction includes teaching via cable, HITS or Skybridge, online, or hybrid modes. Instructors are assigned distance sections based on department chair approval and course demand. Priority is generally given to instructors who, in addition to meeting minimum qualifications required in the content area, have previous experience teaching distance courses and participation in professional development specific to distance instruction.

Instructors who teach online are expected to be evaluated at least once per year (see form here) and regularly participate in professional development specific to teaching online. In accordance with WSCUC policy, all online courses should have a minimum of one assignment that verifies student identity. All instructors have access to support for teaching distance courses through professional development opportunities, the Distance Learning Committee, and the UHMC Instructional Designer. Contact Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs for more information.
