ECET Internships

Internships

The ECET program has ever-expanding relationships with many high tech companies on Maui. The program also partners with community programs, and local organizations. Students in the program will have internship opportunities and gain the skills required for employment in local industry.

Akamai Internship Program

Intern has the opportunity to gain a summer work experience at an observatory, company or scientific/technical facility in Hawai‘i in an 8-week program.

Location: Maui and Hawaiʻi.  Visit https://www.akamaihawaii.org/interning/

Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope (DKIST)

Intern will assist electrical/electronics technicians with troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical/electronics systems.

Location: Haleakala summit, Maui.  Visit: https://nso.edu/telescopes/inouye-solar-telescope/

Student Testimonial: My name is Joshua Morales and I've done an internship with DKIST, on top of the summit in Haleakala, in the Summer of 2023. I worked side by side with the electrical technicians and was lucky to also observe the mechanics and engineers on the summit. During my internship, I assisted the electrical technicians with inspections, preventive maintenance, and blueprint redlining.

Cloudstone Innovations “Panopticon” Project

Internʻs tasks include the setup and continuous operations (i.e., assembling/installing the hardware and software associated with a Panopticon node; starting/stopping the system; and ensuring adequate power and internet connectivity (if necessary) are available), and maintenance (i.e., cleaning, troubleshooting, and repairing the equipment) of a Panopticon node.

Location: UHMC, Maui.  Visit: https://www.cloudstoneinnovations.com/

Maui Robotic Vehicle Association (MRVA)

Intern should be good with her/his hands fabricating and fixing things, designing (including the use of 3D printing, CAD/CAM), and willing to learn and use programming languages (including Arduino / Python programming, C++ programing).

Location: Kihei, Maui. Visit https://www.mrvainc.org/

Student Testimonial: The MRVA internship provided me with valuable experience in various engineering disciplines, including electronics design and troubleshooting for autonomous electric vehicle systems, mechanical design of aluminum and 3D-printed parts, and programming. I interned at MRVA during the summers of 2022 and 2024, guided by exceptional mentors in the industry. This opportunity also allowed me to collaborate with Ai Racing Tech, an autonomous racing team affiliated with the University of Hawaii, in Las Vegas and Texas. These experiences not only enabled me to network with engineers worldwide and work with cutting-edge technology but also significantly inspired my journey to becoming an engineer.
