Program Overview

Certificate of Competence / 23 Credits

UH Maui Collegeʻs Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems Specialist Certificate prepares students for a career in the wastewater field, working alongside engineers and contractors to complete cesspool conversions and onsite wastewater system installations. The certificate includes classes in wastewater, sustainability, and construction, and is a blend of in person and online classes (offered at Hawaiʻi-CC). Students gain hands-on experience working alongside wastewater professionals and complete an internship in the wastewater field to prepare them to immediately enter the workforce.

Students must achieve a C or better in all classes in order to earn the certificate.

Eligible Training Provider List

The Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems Specialist Certificate is on the Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL). Programs on the ETPL enable eligible students to access Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funds. WIOA funds could cover up to 100% of tuition for students who qualify.
